So who was tuned into my show on Monday? Its all about the cheerfull stuff to cheer you up and get you going on a Monday. One of our listeners Brendan sent me the nice tweet you can see above. Thanks Brendan :-)
We had fun on the show with the impossible question. The average person does this 10 times a week. The answer? Hit the snooze button. I am sure I do that a lot more than 10 times in a week!
We were celebrating 80 years since the driving test was introduced and playing driving related songs. Apparently the 1935 test cost 37p to take compared to todays £62. How many times did it take for you to pass then? be honest! For my it was 6, but i recon that makes me a better driver right?
Also on the agenda subjects such as the guy who proposed to his girl friend whilst they were both at a friends wedding reception. The video attracted lots of hits online. Now I know weddings bring out the emotions and may get you thinking about your own knot tieing experience, but you have to wonder how the bride at her reception would feel being upstaged in this way. What about the lady who's being proposed to? How would she feel? maybe a tad embarrassed perhaps? We dont know what the answer was by the way.
Also I spoke to Sam from "Put a Lid on it London". after witnessing a horrific crash involving a Boris Bike user in the capital Sam began to realise how few people using the Boris Bikes use helmets. Sam and his team of fellow cyclists have come up with a helmet that collapses making is easy to store in a bag. The idea is to price this helmet in an affordable way so occasional cyclist can get one when they use a bike, in the same manor as those of us who buy a brolly when it begins to rain. Sam said he hopes the helmet will be availiable to buy from shops near the bike stations. Sam's research into the reasons why people don't wear helmets include the cost for an occasional user, and the fact they are bulky to carry around. Could he be onto something here? Personaly I always wear a helmet when cycling. Why would you take the risk of not wearing one. This is domethibg that could save your life at the end of the day.
Alan from Volunteering matters joined me on the show as it was the first day of volunter week. this is a week where we say thanks to volunteers. Alan spoke about the benifits of volunteering to all parties and told me about his project, based in Brighton which sees older folk helping others of a similar age, and how doing this can reduce isolation and make vunrable people feel more included in their community. I am a volunteer at Radio Wey and have been for 15 years. It has been a great experience and I have made lots of friends over the years and its been great for boosting my confidence. Volunteering is great and brings out the best in human nature. people helping people for no finacial reward. I am off to a special tea party at the hospital this week arranged by the trust to say thank you to the volunteers which really are the life blood of the hospital.
Don't forget to join me on www.radiowey.co.uk every Monday between 9am and noon. You can also listen via the free Tune in Radio smart phone app. Open the app and search Radio Wey.
